Bengaluru Engineer Attacked, Stabbed and Robbed After Dating App Trap in Brutal Extortion Case

A Bengaluru civil engineer was allegedly lured via a dating app, stabbed multiple times, and robbed of money after attackers forced him to reveal his UPI password. Police say four accused planned the assault, threatened exposure, and transferred funds from his bank account before his arrest and medical rescue.

A 27-year-old civil engineer from Chikkajala in Bengaluru was violently attacked, stabbed, and robbed after being allegedly lured through a gay dating application and ambushed by a group of four men in a premeditated extortion and assault incident, police said.

According to the First Information Report registered at Yelahanka Police Station, the victim had been using the Grindr dating application for the past three years to interact and socialise. The platform describes itself as a dating service for the LGBTQ community. On the day of the incident, the engineer received a phone call from an individual he had connected with on the application, requesting a meeting at Palanahalli Gate near Bagalur Road. Trusting the arrangement, he travelled to the location by bus.

Upon arrival, he was intercepted by four men who forcibly escorted him towards Jayamuni Layout near Northgate Company. The accused verbally abused him and threatened to disclose his use of the dating application to his family and acquaintances. He was then taken to a secluded area near Canadian School in Venkatala, where the situation escalated into extreme violence.

One of the accused threatened the victim with a knife and demanded his mobile phone and Unified Payments Interface password. The attackers proceeded to stab him multiple times in the head, wrist, rib area, abdomen, and neck, leaving him severely injured and bleeding.

Yelahanka Police have registered a robbery case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Following investigation, police arrested four accused identified as Darshan, Sunil, Chandan, and one additional associate. Officials further stated that the accused had been in contact with the victim through the application for several days prior to executing the planned attack and robbery.

The incident highlights a growing pattern of targeted digital entrapment leading to violent extortion, raising serious concerns over safety on social networking and dating platforms.
